Recently, there was a news story about a certain governor who was unhappy with the progress of one of her family’s hunting dogs. The dog was still a puppy and of course, was still learning. Instead of showing the puppy some patience or even rehoming the dog, she chose an immoral act. She put down the dog herself.

The perfectly healthy and exuberant puppy was killed because he didn’t meet the expectations that woman had for her hunting dogs. Clearly, she did not meet Cricket’s expectations either.

There’s the saying, Never trust anyone who doesn’t like animals. I can think of at least two examples where that statement is true.

Adolf Hitler was known to have hated cats. Donald Trump isn’t much of an animal lover. During his presidency, the USDA cut back “on “animal-welfare enforcement and perpetrators of animal cruelty,” had it a lot easier than before he took office.

I’m sure animals haven’t thought much of either of these miscreants.

Companion animals’ needs are quite basic.

They just want us to love them, feed them, and provide a safe environment where they can thrive. The occasional puppachino or if your companion is a cat, tuna treat wouldn’t hurt either.
