I first became a pet parent in my twenties. I adopted a stray cat that jockeyed her way into my parents’ house on Christmas Day. She instantly became the center of attention that day as we marveled every time she showed us a new trick or just bubbled over in kitten cuteness.

Named for St. Nick, Nicky became a great companion to me for sixteen years. She set me down the cat mom path I’m still on today. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What I didn’t realize then is that I would continue to marvel every time my cat did something cute or funny. There are certain cat behaviors that I’ve experienced with almost every cat I’ve had the pleasure to know and love.

1. The first time your furry Friend brings you a present

Whether it’s a leaf, a catnip toy, or even a Christmas bow, the first time your furry friend brings you a present is significant. As humans, we believe that means our new friend loves us and is showing their gratitude by presenting us with the present in question.

I believe this to be true. When my cat, Lucky, was still a wee kitten, he climbed on my bed on Christmas Day and presented me with a red Christmas bow. He…
