Scout is blind. She lost her eyesight to an infection when she was a kitten. She weighed just over a pound when they performed surgery to remove her eyes. Scout was too little and too young to survive a trauma like that. But she did. The veterinarian called her a miracle kitten.

When I met Scout she was with 35 other cats at a kitty café. She was one of the smallest kittens there, and the only blind one. I watched her as I stretched and posed during a kitty yoga class. At first, I didn’t realize she was blind because she moved so effortlessly across the floor chasing her toys. As we relaxed on our mats at the end of class, she purred in my ear.

As a blind kitten, she was at a huge disadvantage being with 35 other cats

I hadn’t intended to adopt another cat that day. I had three already. We bonded, so I felt a responsibility to take care of her. She was so little, I feared she wouldn’t make it on her own. As I walked to the door, she followed me. I knew right there, I wanted to bring her home. The next day I did.
